John
Storm suited up for a dive, with Dan Hawk at the helm of the Elizabeth Swann
ELIZABETH
SWANN, SOMEWHERE IN THE OCEAN OR UP A RIVER
Danny
(Daniel) Hawk is an electronics
genius.
He
was a child prodigy, who signed on with John Storm once they had established that they have a common interest in technology applications,
especially Artificial Intelligence and development. Thus, he is constantly
monitoring the Elizabeth
Swann's Captain Nemo,
and sometimes tweaking Hal
and Captain
Nemo.
John
took a chance on Dan, who when they met, spoke different languages. Rather
than engage a psuedo cabin boy, like Jim
Hawkins in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure
Island, as was usual in days of old, John decided on a sporty geek. It
was a good bet.
Dan turned out to be mature beyond his years in the responsibilities he was prepared to take
on, and very capable.
Dan is one of the main supporting characters in the
Cleopatra story. He
is superstitious, wary of snakes and large spiders. The thought of coming face to face with a real mummy,
scares him, as does the occult, voodoo and aliens. He also hates going
anywhere near the Bermuda Triangle.
Apart from girls, his current interests revolve around computers and robotics. He is also into renewable energy, fast electric bikes,
fast electric cars and fast Net
Zero, blue water transport. He would like to see a sustainable world,
such as based on renewable hydrogen, or other green energy supplies.
For all these reasons, Danny is chief engineer on the Elizabeth
Swann; a kind of tech heaven for a technophile; an enthusiast of
technology. Dan manages to connect the CyberCore
nano computer to Hal, when they need to prevent an attempt by the CIA
to sink the
Elizabeth Swann and kill everyone onboard with a missile fired by NORAD.
Instead, Hal hacks the military mainframes and redirects the missile to a
deserted part of the Guantánamo
Bay military prison on Cuba.
Dan (to his mates) relies on John Storm for his lead in these adventures,
helping to get the duo out of tough scrapes.
