As the excitement over Cleopatra's DNA subsided, Klaus and Rudolph turned their attention to a more ambitious goal: the creation of a perfect human. They realized that understanding the genetic diversity of humanity was crucial to achieving this lofty aim, interlinked with the development of planet earth as a whole. All life on earth.

"We need a comprehensive database, a genetic map of the human world," Klaus declared, his eyes gleaming with ambition. 

"We must study the adaptations of humans to different environments, the genetic variations that have allowed us to thrive and dominate the planet."

Rudolph nodded in agreement. 

"And we must consider the genetic diversity of other species, the animals and plants that have coexisted with us for millennia. By understanding their genetic code, we can unlock the secrets of evolution and perhaps even engineer new life resilient forms for space colonization."

The scientists knew that their work would be met with both admiration and fear. They would need to navigate a complex ethical landscape, balancing the potential benefits of their research with the risks of unintended consequences.

One name kept recurring in their discussions: John Storm. The enigmatic adventurer, with his uncanny ability to appear in the most unexpected places, was a force to be reckoned with. He possessed a vast knowledge of ancient civilizations and a deep understanding of human nature, having made anthropology his life's study.

"We must either recruit him or eliminate him," Rudolph said, his voice low and menacing. "He is a wildcard, a potential threat to our plans."

Klaus hesitated. "Perhaps we might offer him a place in our project. His skills and knowledge could be invaluable."

Klaus and Rudolph, the brilliant minds behind the Cleopatra project, were not content with merely reviving a single historical figure. Their ambition extended far beyond the past. They envisioned a future where humans could transcend their limitations, a future where they could shape their own destiny.

"We need to study the evolution of humanity," Klaus explained, his eyes gleaming with ambition. "We must understand how humans adapted to different environments, how their genes mutated and evolved."

They knew that 'The Ark,' is a treasure trove of genetic information. It was a powerful weapon, a tool that could shape the future of humanity. But it was also a dangerous weapon, capable of immense destruction in the wrong hands. The Ark represented a short-cut for their project. An accelerator as surely as the CyberCore Genetica had turbo-charged their decoding abilities. Well worth the $20 billion dollars it had cost them.

Though, the raid on Interpol, had proved less fruitful. Their database was well guarded. Not so Scotland Yard.

The two scientists pondered the future, a future filled with both promise and peril. They knew that the decisions they made today could shape the destiny of humanity tomorrow.

With approval from Baron Richthofen and Safiya Sabuka, Franco and Klaus contacted John Storm aboard the Elizabeth Swann at anchor on the River Thames.

John agreed to meet with the scientists, intrigued as to any commonality in research.

"Do you know the River Cafe, Thames, Hammersmith?"

"The Italian restaurant, Thames Wharf?" said John.

"One and the same." 

"Their poached langoustines with aïoli and pea salad, oh, and their clam risotto dressed with zucchini flowers, are mouthwatering delights." John recalled a meal to remember, with Charley Temple and Steve Green.

"Oh, you do know it. How about tomorrow midday?"

"It's a date," said John

HEAD HUNTERS: RIVER CAFE, RIVER THAMES, LONDON

The River Cafe, nestled on the banks of the River Thames offered the perfect backdrop for their meeting. Sunlight streamed through the large windows, illuminating the elegant dining room with a warm glow. Klaus, impeccably dressed in a bespoke suit, sipped his champagne, his gaze sweeping across the tables looking across the river.

"A most…civilized setting," he remarked, his voice a low purr. "Perfect for discussing matters of…mutual interest."

Franco, ever the pragmatist, nodded. "Indeed. Discreet, yet sophisticated. Ideal for … persuasion."

The door swung open and John Storm entered the elegant dining area, his gaze sweeping the vista. He spotted Klaus and Franco, who were seated at a secluded corner table, their faces etched with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension.

"Gentlemen," John greeted, his voice a low growl. "To what do I owe this… unexpected pleasure?"

Klaus rose to greet him, extending a hand. "Mr. Storm. A pleasure to see you again."

The two men had met before on a dig in Africa many years before.

John shook his hand, his grip firm. "The pleasure is entirely mine." He gestured towards the empty chair opposite him. "Please, be seated. Tide and time wait for no man."

John studied Franco Francisco. His face seemed vaguely familiar. But he could not place him.

"Roma?"

"Ah, this is my esteemed colleague, Franco Francisco." John reached over and the two men heartily shook hands.

"Pleased to meet you Mr Francisco."

"Likewise Mr Storm."

As they settled, John noticed a subtle shift in the dynamic. Klaus, usually so confident, seemed a little uncomfortable. Franco, however, was composed and relaxed, with a somewhat predatory glint in his eyes.

"We hope you will understand, we've been doing some digging … a little background research," Franco began, his voice smooth as silk.

"Would it surprise you to learn the CIA has taken a keen interest in your… project."

"My project?" enquired John a little unsure as to what project they meant. True, he had a CIA contact in Jack Mason. But they were helping him working with Blue Shield ...... were they not!

"Mr. Storm," Klaus interjected, his voice an octave higher than normal, "the CIA is another matter. We believe your database, the Ark isn't it, may be of benefit to our research, and reciprocally, our technology may benefit your collecting. 

John raised an eyebrow. "Indeed, that may prove to be the case? But what, pray tell, does the CIA have to do with my DNA collection?"

Klaus chuckled, a dry, humorless sound. 

"Apparently, their interest extends beyond mere archaeological curiosity. They believe the Ark holds the key to … certain … advancements in their own research."

John leaned forward, his gaze fixed on Klaus. "Advancements? Genetic crops? Or are you talking about weapons development? Biological warfare? What?"

Klaus hesitated, then admitted, "Perhaps…a combination, or neither. Who knows how the CIA thinks. But you may be right, DARPA is in the mix somehow."

John nodded slowly, his eyes gleaming with a newfound interest. "DARPA! So, is it a race of sorts, perhaps to complete a genetic map of the world. Between us, the CIA, and…who knows who else."

"Precisely," Franco said, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "If that is your goal? Which is just one reason why we believe a collaboration … a more … mutually beneficial arrangement, might be in order."

"You can be sure Russia and China are watching," said Klaus. "Anything the CIA is into, Asia is not far behind."

John remained silent, his gaze fixed on the shimmering surface of the Thames. The game had just gotten a whole lot more interesting.

"To me it's just a hobby."

"Quite a hobby John. When I met you years ago, you were just starting to collect DNA. Tanzania, wasn't it?" Said Klaus.

We'd offer you… compensation, of course - for your time," injected Franco. "Significant funding for your continued work, access to our cutting-edge technology…"

John Storm scoffed a little. "Money? Funding? I have sufficient funding for my purposes. What I want is knowledge with qualified assurances. Guarantees that this… and any project of yours involving my collection, won't be used for nefarious purposes. I'd be more interested is seeing your technology."

Franco leaned forward, his eyes twinkling. 

"Nefarious is a strong word. Our benefactor is Heinrich Richthofen, a man of vision, a renowned philanthropist," Franco let slip, "we seek to understand the past, to learn from history. Maybe you've heard of him?"

Klaus enjoined, "we just want to fill in a few gaps in our DNA studies.

"And that's it?" John questioned. "Where is your base of operations Klaus, and how might I benefit from your endeavours? I'm a little hazy."

Klaus bristled. "Indeed, benefit! Oh yes. Our work compliments your own John. At least, there are parallels. We operate from Geneva by the way." He was careful not to mention Manaus.

"Look around you, Klaus. The world is a mess. Climate change, acid oceans, war, famine. To be honest, I don't quite know where my efforts are headed. Let alone your aims. What if you unleash something you can't control?"

"You mean Jurassic World plagues and velociraptors?" Klaus laughed a little.

The two New World Knights exchanged uneasy glances. Had they underestimated John Storm, his skepticism, his moral compass. They'd hoped to appeal to him as scientists.

"What assurances do you require John?" Klaus asked, his voice carefully modulated.

John leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression on his face. 

"Firstly," he began, "absolute transparency. I'd need access to all research data, all findings. No secrets, no hidden agendas. On a confidential basis of course."

"Agreed, via a Non-Disclosure Agreement?" Klaus conceded. "Quid pro quo."

"Secondly," John continued, "a guarantee that any use of the database … any genetic manipulation will not be used as a weapon, a tool for political manipulation, or crops untested or potentially harmful to humans or our ecology."

"For the good of mankind. On that we give you our word," Franco assured him.

"No offence intended, but talk is cheap, Dr. Francisco," John retorted. "I need something more concrete. A legal agreement or charter perhaps, enforceable by international law, that explicitly prohibits the use of this technology for any purposes harmful to the environment."

Klaus hesitated. Such an agreement would severely limit their freedom of action. "That… that may be difficult, but not impossible. We appreciate you are a dyed in the wool conservationist."

They were not making the progress they'd hoped for with plan 'A'. John was taking the bait, but guardedly. Plan 'B' was Operation Leviathan.

"Nice job rescuing that whale." Franco could not resist.

John smiled finally. "Moby Dick." 

I hear you go in for abseiling tall buildings John? Klaus added.

They all burst out laughing.

"Shall we order?"
