BAY OF NAPLES, MEDITERRANEAN SEA - THE REVELATION

Dan Hawk and Hal, the artificially intelligent supercomputer onboard the Elizabeth Swann, narrowed down John's bloodline to Queen Drusilla of Mauretania, daughter of Julia Urania, eventually, and after not too long they began to feel they must share what they'd deduced from the history books. They felt compelled to reveal their knowledge to John, who they knew may not want to believe them, and may take offence at his crew sneaking around behind his back - as it were. It would be a hard sell. Even though that was not their intention.

John's crewmates used a method of logical deductions and eliminations, Sherlock Holmes fashion, to arrive at their conclusions. Nothing was conclusive.

The subject cropped up while they were at the helm of the Elizabeth Swann, as they entered the Bay of Naples, en route to Rome, hence, triggering feelings that we all experience at some point in our lives, of déjà vu. A strange yet inexplicable feeling of being somewhere before, knowing that not to be the case.

The Swann gracefully sliced through the calm waters of the Bay of Naples, the ancient city of Pompeii shimmering on the horizon. John, at the helm, felt a strange a tingling sensation that seemed to emanate from the very depths of his soul. 

I've been here before a long time ago. He thought to himself.

He glanced at Dan, who looked to be following the autopilot navigation route, his brow furrowed in concentration, but was actually glancing up at John at regular intervals to gauge his reaction.

"You seem distracted, Captain," Dan remarked, his gaze fixed firmly on the radar screen.

John shook his head, trying to dispel the unsettling feeling of a distant memory. 

"Just… a strange feeling. Like I've been here before."

Dan chuckled. "Seasickness? It happens to the best of us."

"No, something more… profound," John mused, his eyes drawn to the distant coastline. "A sense of… familiarity."

Hal, his voice a synthesized whisper, interjected. "Captain, I've been analyzing your DNA profile, cross-referencing it with historical databases."

John raised an eyebrow. "And?"

"Fascinating results," Hal replied. "Your lineage, while complex, appears to trace back to… the Roman Republic."

"Roman Republic? That's a bit vague, don't you think?"

"Not entirely," Hal continued. "We've identified a specific branch of your family tree, one that intersects with… the Julio-Claudian dynasty."

John felt a jolt, a shiver down his spine. "The Julio-Claudians? You mean… related to Caesar?"

"Indirectly," Hal explained. "Through your maternal line. Your great-grandmother, Amelia Worthington, isn't it? appears to be a descendant of Drusilla, daughter of Julia Urania."

John stared at the horizon, speechless. Drusilla… the sister of Caligula, the wife of Marcus Antonius. 

"Drusilla…" he whispered, the name echoing in his mind.

Dan, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, looked at John, concern etched on his face. "Captain, are you alright?"

John shook his head, still processing the information. "It… it explains so much," he murmured. "The feeling of déjà vu, the inexplicable draw to this place…"

He looked at Hal, his eyes wide with a mixture of awe and disbelief. "How… how did you discover this?"

Hal explained the intricate process, the cross-referencing of genealogical databases, the elimination of countless dead ends. 

"It was a complex puzzle," Hal admitted, "but ultimately, the pieces fell into place."

John remained silent, lost in thought. He was not just a captain; he was a descendant of Rome, a distant echo of the very empire that had once ruled this sea. And now, he was sailing these waters, carrying a living legend, a woman reborn from the ashes of that very empire.

The implications of this discovery were profound, both personal and historical. John knew this journey, this voyage of rediscovery, was about to take a far more personal and unexpected turn.

DOES CLEOPATRA KNOW?

The next thing that occurred to John, he began to wonder if Cleopatra might suspect, or feel, something similar to himself. 

Oh shit.

Dan and Hal also twigged this without saying anything. Then as John recognised the shoreline, the sights and smells of Italy compel him to ask the question that will not go away: 

"Does Cleopatra know any of this?" 

John now felt emotionally vulnerable. He went weak at the knees, and stumbled a little. Thinking it cannot be, but deep down felt the connection. He felt sure that Cleopatra knew not of their research, but, being extremely astute, she would be bound to figure it out very soon? And then!

The Swann closed in on the ancient city of Pompeii emerging from the haze on the horizon. John, gripping the helm to steady himself, felt a strange tremor course through him, a mixture of awe and apprehension.

"Magnificent, isn't it, Captain?" Dan remarked, his gaze sweeping across the breathtaking panorama.

John nodded, his mind racing. "Indeed. A timeless beauty." He paused, a question forming in his mind. 

"Hal, Dan, have you… have you mentioned anything to Cleopatra about… about my possible ancestry?"

Hal's voice was calm and measured. 

"Negative, Captain. Dan and myself deemed it prudent to maintain operational security."

John relaxed his grip on the helm slightly. "Good. I wouldn't want to… spook her."

He glanced at the open rear deck, where Cleopatra was gazing out at the coastline, a wistful expression on her face. He couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking .... if she felt a similar… resonance… to this place, a connection to her past. He felt she must.

"Dan," John said, his voice low, "do you think… do you think she knows?"

Dan, ever the pragmatist, frowned. "Knows what, Captain? That you're related to… well, to anyone in particular?"

"To Antony," John replied, his voice barely a whisper. "To Rome."

Dan looked thoughtful. "She's perceptive, Captain. A very clever lady. She may have already sensed a… connection. An inexplicable pull towards you."

John felt another shiver trickle down his spine. 

"You think so?"

"I believe so," Hal chimed in. "Her emotional responses, her… intuition… it's uncanny. She may not be aware of the specific details, but she senses something, a resonance between you."

John felt a strange mixture of excitement and trepidation. The thought of Cleopatra, the legendary queen, sensing a connection to him, a descendant of her former lover, was both exhilarating and terrifying.

He turned to look at her again, her profile silhouetted against the vibrant hues of the Neapolitan sunset. Her gaze was fixed on the distant shore, a contemplative expression on her face. He wondered what thoughts were running through her beautiful mind, what memories, what emotions were stirring within her.

This encounter with his own ancestry had irrevocably altered his perspective. He was no longer just a Captain; he was a descendant of Rome, a link to a bygone era, connected to the woman he was falling irrevocably in love with.

He knew, with a certainty that chilled him to the bone, that this journey was about to become far more complicated than he ever could have imagined.

Indeed, while Cleopatra savoured the Italian aromas wafting across the Mediterranean sea, she was also mystified as to the resemblance of John Storm to how she remembered Marcus Antonius. His strength and thoughtfulness, his pheromones that warmed her blood. She glanced toward the helm, noticing again John's profile against this background. She went weak at the knees, imagining herself back in time aboard her galley, full sails with Mark Antony at the helm, her heart raced in time with her imagination and hopes. Then Isis entered her head, urging calm, history should not repeat itself.

The salt-laced air whipped through Cleopatra's hair as their ship sailed on into the shimmering waters of the Bay of Naples. Pompeii, with its haunting beauty, loomed on the horizon, a stark reminder of the fleeting nature of time and the inevitability of change. Yet, as she gazed upon the ancient city, a strange sense of familiarity washed over her. It was as if a veil had been lifted, memories long dormant stirring within her soul.

She again turned her gaze to John, who stood at the helm, his profile etched against the vibrant hues of the setting sun. His focused expression, the way his jaw clenched as he steered the ship, the strength in his broad shoulders… it all screamed Antony. The same unwavering determination, the same air of quiet authority.

A shiver ran down her spine, a mixture of excitement and apprehension. The resemblance was uncanny. The same deep brown eyes, the same strong jawline, even the way his hair fell across his forehead… it was as if Antony had been reborn.

She remembered the feel of his hand on her arm, the warmth of his embrace, the intoxicating scent of his cologne. Memories, long buried, surfaced, vivid and poignant. The laughter, the shared secrets, the passionate debates… all of it came flooding back, a bittersweet torrent of emotions.

But then, a pang of guilt pierced through the euphoria. Antony… she had betrayed him, abandoned him in his hour of need. Could he ever trust her again unconditionally, as a descendant of her former lover? Did those thoughts travel through time, as she had?

Suddenly, a voice whispered in her mind, the voice of Isis, calm and reassuring. "Beware, Cleopatra," the goddess seemed to say. "History repeats itself continually, but the future in not written. Do not let your past blind you to the present."

Cleopatra closed her eyes, seeking solace in the goddess's wisdom. She had to be cautious, to tread carefully. This journey was not just a nostalgic pilgrimage; it was a minefield of emotions, a dangerous game of echoes and shadows.

She opened her eyes, to find John had joined her on the aft deck. Her gaze fixed on John's features. He was looking at her, a curious expression on his face. She smiled faintly, a hint of mischief in her eyes. 

"You know," she said, her voice low and husky, "you remind me of someone."

John turned, a startled look on his face. "Do I now?"

Cleopatra raised an eyebrow, her gaze lingering on his strong jawline. "A man of honor, a warrior, a leader… a man who commands respect."

John felt a blush creeping up his neck. "Thank you, Your Majesty." John joked.

Cleopatra smiled, a knowing twinkle in her eyes. "But," she added, with a mischievous look on her face, "perhaps a little less… impetuous."

John chuckled, feeling a strange sense of foreboding. He had the distinct feeling that Cleopatra knew more than she was letting on, that some ancient instinct, some deep-seated memory, was guiding her every move.

Deep down he knew that she knew, and was teasing him.
