The Mummipedia Fandom Wiki website seems to list almost every kind of mummy one might imagine. The object of mummification is to protect the physical remains of a body in its earthly form. In the case of ancient Egyptian mummies, the state of protection goes further. The object is to preserve the internal organs separately to the main motivational body (skeleton and muscles), using chemicals and spices. Such that, the whole when brought together, constituted the physical remains of a person when they were alive on earth.
In terms of archaeology, this practice gives a geneticist a fair chance of recovering DNA from which to be able to identify the subject. In terms of cloning, the quality of the DNA determines how successful replication might be, without the need for excessive genome patching and splicing, using super computers.
